It has been a busy time over the past few months as we prepared to open for visitors to our gardens and grounds. We have been open now for just over a month and although there have been a few showers; the weather has been fairly kind to us.
We have already seen daffodils and bluebells and now the summer bedding is starting to flourish with the borders in our formal gardens becoming fuller and fuller.
Luckily the work we did on the Wild Flower Meadow seems to have paid off, despite the torrential rain we experienced earlier this year. We were worried the wild flower seed had rotted in the wet soil but early signs are good, with a large amount of yellow rattle growing healthily.
Chestnuts tea room has been very busy with Robin’s homemade cakes and treats going down very well indeed. The peacock seems to approve as he’s been hanging around Chestnuts a lot more often. We have also added a little paw bath to the front of Chestnuts so your dog can dip his or her toes in and get rid of any excess mud.
Coming up we have some fantastic events including Alice in Wonderland and Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour performing Much Ado About Nothing. Be sure to check our events page for details on times, prices and how to book your tickets.
As usual our little plant stand is available for you along with our honesty box.
If you haven’t already, please ‘Like’ us on Facebook and ‘follow’ us on Twitter to keep abreast of latest news and information.
We look forward to seeing you and will have another blog post ready for you in late summer.
Thank you for keeping in touch with us.
From everyone at the Gardens & Grounds of Herstmonceux Castle.
