Doctor Dolittle Event Herstmonceux Castle Sussex
Friday 20th July 2018 – 6pm
When Doctor John Dolittle of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh is taught by his wise old parrot Polynesia how to talk to animals, news of his skills spreads far and wide. Soon animals across the world send messages asking for his help. So, he buys a leaky old ship and, together with his trusty pet-crew of Jip the dog, Chee-Chee the monkey, Dab-Dab the Duck and permanently hungry Gub-Gub the pig, sets forth on a mission to heal illness, spread compassion and gain a greater understanding of the animal kingdom.
A funny, much-loved and exciting adventure, with a strong message about responsibility towards animals and the environment, this show is created by the same Illyria team who brought you an entire menagerie of animal puppets in DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD and a life-size T-Rex in THE LOST WORLD.
The show is suitable for cheeky monkeys aged 5+.

Weddings, Handfastings & Blessing Ceremonies at England’s Medieval Festival
Weddings, Handfastings & Blessing Ceremonies at England’s Medieval Festival
The stunning grounds and gardens of Herstmonceux Castle are the perfect fairy-tale wedding venue any time of the year; but each August Bank Holiday weekend something truly magical happens. England’s Medieval Festival transforms this magnificent Sussex location in to the most authentic historical experience of its kind.
Step back in time and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of days gone by. Wedding parties will delight in this unique event and guests of all ages will discover so much to see and do during their time at the festival.
A wedding at England’s Medieval Festival can be a traditional civil ceremony in the castle or opt for an alternative hand-fasting or blessing in the beautiful gardens or within the thrilling royal arena.
With the breath-taking backdrop of a real castle and all the sights and sounds of the medieval village, the weekend offers a limited number of couples a special themed experience never to be forgotten.
All festival guests can enjoy acres of parkland, lawns and formal period gardens containing hundreds of species of flowers and plants. Wander through the authentic medieval village or discover the hidden court yard or woodland folly. Jousting takes place behind the castle and the bridge entrance across the moat welcomes thrilling battle re-enactments all weekend.
Accommodation options vary within the castle grounds and locally in the area. For an authentic medieval experience guests can sleep under the stars in furnished glamping tents with private areas available for groups. For guests who prefer solid walls, the on-site B&B provides comfortable rooms or there is even a chance to stay in the castle itself.
In the evening the full festival entertainment provides plenty of fun with character performances and lively music from popular folk bands. Our optional medieval banquet offers an authentic option to feast and toast the happy couple in the castle. Alternatively, guests can indulge in a delicious peasants’ hog roast and tankard of mead under the stars. We are happy to tailor private entertainment with anything from traditional medieval flute music and romantic stargazing to performing mummers and magical wizards.
The name Herstmonceux is itself a fusion of surnames between Idonea de Herste and nobleman Ingelram de Monceux. It is fitting that such a superb wedding venue has romantic historical beginnings and explains why couples marrying at Herstmonceux Castle feel the romantic ambiance beyond the beautiful setting.
There are a range of private rooms and spaces within the castle and grounds should your party require a dedicated area, and our event staff work with each wedding party to tailor their memorable celebration, whatever the budget.
England’s Medieval Festival provides an unforgettable wedding experience in a unique and authentic location.
‘I just want to say a massive thank you to the whole team, everyone was amazing and so helpful!! We had a fantastic time so did all our guests. We will be coming back next year’
